Gen. Mike Dunavant to guide prosecutors statewide

District Attorney General Mike Dunavant of Tipton County was elected to serve as Secretary of the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference at their annual meeting.  As District Attorney for the 25th Judicial District, Dunavant serves Fayette, Hardeman, Lauderdale, McNairy and Tipton Counties.
As Conference Secretary, General Dunavant will lead oversight of the Conference administration that includes budgeting, accounting, payroll, personnel and property management for all District Attorneys offices throughout the state.  Other conference tasks include training for new and experienced Assistant District Attorneys General, Criminal Investigators, and Victim Witness Coordinators, and advising the Tennessee General Assembly on improvement in the criminal justice system. General Dunavant will serve in this capacity along with Conference President, District Attorney Kim Helper of Williamson County, and Conference Vice President, District Attorney Jimmy Dunn of Sevier County.
“General Dunavant’s experience and common-sense approach are valuable assets in coordinating the efforts of all District Attorneys General against criminal activity in the state,” said Executive Director William C. Whitesell, Jr.  “We are fortunate to have leaders like Mike Dunavant who are not afraid to make hard decisions and who are committed to finding solutions to difficult problems.”
General Dunavant was first elected District Attorney for the 25th Judicial District in August, 2006.  He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law.  He and his wife Marianne have a 12 year old son, Hutch, and they make their home in Atoka.
