Bolivar Captures Third Straight Middle School Championship

Bolivar Middle School defeated Fayette East 58-40 on January 26 to win the Area 6 Middle School Basketball Championship for the third consecutive year.
Bolivar reached the finals with a 35-13 win over Hornsby in the first round, and a 50-29 win over St. Mary’s in the semifinals.
Bolivar advanced to the sectionals, where they fell to Paris Inman, 45-37, in the first round, ending their season at 18-2.
Against Fayette East, Bolivar jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and never trailed. Toris Woods led Bolivar with 16 points, Telvin Polk had 12, and Jaquan Lax added 11.
Making the all-tournament team were tournament MVP Jaquan Lax, Polk, Woods, Kylan Jones, and Andtrayvin Stewart. Coach Demetrice Beauregard was named the Coach of the Year.
Toone’s girls team, which qualified for the final with a 35-32 win over Fayette West on January 25, couldn’t handle the St. Mary’s Angels pressure defense and bowed out of the tournament in second place, losing 33-29. Brooklyn Jimmerson led Toone with 10 points. The Lady Bobcats then advanced to the sectional tournament on January 28, where they were defeated by Bellvue by a 56-16 score.
Making the all-tournament team from Toone were Brooklyn Jimmerson, Carly Daniel, and Olivia Sain. Also making the all-tournament team from Hardeman County was Bolivar’s Chakhia Blockett. Only players whose teams advanced to the tournament semifinals were eligible to make the all-tournament teams.
