Williams’ Basketball Career Honored with Highway

On a sunny Thursday morning at the corner of old 64 and new 64, a group of friends, peers, former players, Hardeman County Mayor Jimmy Sain, State Representative Johnny Shaw and State Senator Delores Gresham, Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen, Hardeman County Assessor of Property Josh Pulse, City of Bolivar Police Chief Pat Baker, and other members of the community gathered to honor a coaching legend. The legislative body of Hardeman County received a petition from former players, neighbors, and friends of Coach Marvin Williams requesting that he be honored for his many years of service to his community through education and coaching the game of basketball on high school and collegiate levels.
Marvin Williams began his athletic career at Whiteville High School where he averaged 25 points per game while playing center at only 5-foot-9. Graduating to college; he was educated at Freed-Hardeman University, Bethel University, and Murray State University where he would carry his lessons throughout his 31 year coaching career.
