Middleton outlasts Tipton-Rosemark

The Middleton Tigers got their second win of the season with a 32-21 win over the Tipton-Rosemark Rebels Friday, September 27, on the road.
“Tipton-Rosemark has always been a good team, but we had some speed this year, and were able to get the win,” Middleton Head Coach Craig Harris said.
The Tigers jumped to a 12 point first quarter lead. Bradley Sullivan scored first on a 30 yard pass from Keon Pipkin. A few moments later, Pipkin threw his second touchdown of the night, a seven yard pass to Jonathan Howser. The Rebels got on the board in the second quarter on a 65 yard interception return. The Tigers got the points back a few minutes later, when Pipkin tossed a 74 yard pass to Howser. Later in the quarter, Pipkin would cross the goal line on his own with a 76 yard run to give the Tigers a 24-7 lead at the half. The Rebels had the only score in the third quarter, a 65 yard fumble return. They would score one more time on an 11 yard run in the fourth quarter. Middleton put up one more score, in the fourth, a 20 yard run by Aaron Burnette, followed by a two-point conversion by Pipkin to give the Tigers a final score of 32-21.
“This was a great team effort. The defense played well, and we refused to lie down and give up after the two turnovers that resulted in scores,” Harris said. “As long as we keep a good attitude when bad things like this happen we can do well.”
Middleton finished the game with 400 yards in total offense, including 239 yards on the ground, and 161 yards in the air. Aaron Burnette was top rusher with 21 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown, while Jonathan Howser was top receiver with three catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Keon Pipkin was 7-16 for 161 yards passing, as well as one rushing touchdown. He threw two interceptions, and Middleton fumbled the ball four times.
“It was good to have Keon back, we missed him at the Walnut, MS game,” Harris said.
On the other side of the ball, the Tigers held the Rebels to just 112 yards in total offense, including 101 yards on the ground, and 11 yards in the air. In addition, the Tigers intercepted the ball twice and forced one fumble. Top defensive players for Middleton included Montrez Jones, who had eight tackles including one sack, and Jake Pulse, who had six tackles and an interception.
