Preparations are well under way for the BMS Tigers season opener against Chester County on Thursday, August 13.

BMS Tigers young but hungry

The Bolivar Middle School Tigers are in final preparations for their 2015 season opener, which is a little more than a week away, and according to head coach Brian Mays, there is still a lot of work to do.
“We are a very young team, and our inexperience is causing some anxiety issues that are noticeable, especially with our quarterback, who is dropping the ball a lot on the snap right now,” Mays said. “We had the same problem at the beginning of last season, and with time, I believe it will get better.”
The Tigers have only two starters returning from last year, but of the 57 players currently on the roster, 27 played on the JV team last season, giving them some experience.
In spite of the inexperience, the coach is pleased with the effort he has seen thus far and says there are several players he feels can lead the team to victory.  Leading the Tigers at quarterback will be Mark Ross, but Bailey Waddle is also expected to get some time in the QB position as well. Running backs include Kentrell Morrow. Lyndarius Armour will play full back and defensive end. Players on the line will include Bryce Trotter at center and nose guard, and Logan Bell at tight end and line back. Others on the line include Jamaurrion Rivers, Landon Hannis and Trey Howell.
In addition, several new players have made an impression on the coach, including Javon Spencer, along with Caleb Robertson who will play tight end and defensive end, and Cortez Jones who will play on the line.
Another problem facing the young squad right now is the heat.
“We have had to cut our practice time to a little over an hour a day because of the extreme heat.” Mays said.
The team will get a chance to practice under game conditions this week when they travel to Hardin County for scrimmage on Thursday, August 6, at 6 p.m.
“Hopefully we can get some of the jitters out of us,” Mays said.
