Big plays, turnovers key in Bolivar win

The Bolivar Central Tigers overcame a 10 point third quarter deficit by scoring 28 unanswered points against the Gibson County Pioneers in the third, and fourth quarters for a 49-31 win on Friday night on the road.
“I am proud of these kids,” Bolivar Head Coach Woodrow Lowe said. “Last year we had zero wins on the road and this year we already have two road wins.”
The story of the night for Bolivar was big plays. Out of seven touchdowns, six came from plays of 45 yards or longer. The other one came on an interception return, one of three interceptions Bolivar had on the night.
Gibson County got on the board first with a field goal, but Bolivar would score the first two touchdowns of the night. The first touchdown came on a 53 yard run by Corey Brown with about seven minutes left in the first quarter. The second score came with a little over a minute left in the quarter when Trey Lowe connected on a 51 yard pass to Robert Crisp for a 14-3 lead going into the second quarter. Gibson County scored twice in the second quarter and went into the locker room with a 17-14 lead.
Bolivar got the lead back less than a minute into the third quarter on a 57 yard run by Dreke Lewis. Gibson County got the first of two back to back touchdowns a minute later, and led by their largest margin, 31-21 midway through the third quarter. That is when Bolivar took control of the game, starting with a 49 yard run by Lewis, and his second touchdown of the night with less than six minutes left in the third quarter, cutting the Pioneers lead to 31-28 going into the final stanza.
The fourth quarter was all Bolivar, scoring three times in the last five minutes of the game. They took the lead for the rest of the game with about four minutes left in the game, when Lowe found Crisp for a second time, this one for 59 yards. With less than two minutes to go, Bolivar scored twice in under a minute, once on a 47 yard run by Lewis, his third of the night. The final score of the night came on an interception by Earl Bowers, which he ran back 34 yards, giving Bolivar a 49-31 win.
