Walley Announces Candidacy for Senate

Tennessee State Senator Page Walley added his name to the list of candidates in Hardeman County as he said he intends to run for re-election to the Tennessee State Senate in 2024. The Republican primary election is slated for August 1, and the general election is November 5, 2024.

Walley has served as a State Senator since 2020 when he was elected with 76 percent of the vote in the November general election. Page has played a significant role in balancing the state budget, cut taxes multiple times, improved education, and voted to keep traditional Tennessee values strong.

“I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the people of the 26th district. I plan on always putting people over politics and never forgetting who elected me,” Walley said. “I appreciate the trust folks put in me 4 years ago and I don’t intend to let them down now.”

Walley’s announcement adds him to the list that includes Hardeman County Assessor of Property Josh Pulse, who will run as an independent in the August election against Republican Larry Crawford. Besides Walley, Pulse is the lone incumbent running in the 2024 elections, although State Representatives Johnny Shaw and Ron Gant are expected to announce as well.

For school board, three positions will have two candidates apiece: Republican Erica Garrison of Hornsby will face Democrat Anthony Ford of Whiteville for School Board District 3, Position 1; Johnny Davis of Middleton and Bill Stone of Grand Junction will face each other for the School Board District 2, Position 2; and Steve Gibson and Stacy Swift will vie for the District 3, Position 3 school board slot.

No candidates in the county elections are opposed for the scheduled March primary.

The only non-contested race will be Democrat Michion E. Gatlin for District 1, Position 3 on the Hardeman County Commission. The seat was created by the passing of Thomas Polk on November 22. The Hardeman County Commission is expected to select a replacement for Polk until August 2024 at their January 2024 meeting (see story above). Early voting for the primary will be February 14-27, with election day scheduled for March 5.
