Middleton Mayor and Board given outstanding library report

Carl Gibson, member of the Middleton Library Board, introduced Cynthia Scott and Becky White to Mayor Jackie Cox and the Board of Aldermen. Scott, the city’s librarian, received her librarian certification in 2008 and continues to maintain that status. White is the assistant librarian. In fiscal year 2013-2014, the library received the state-wide R.E.A.D.S. award.
“The library is open 26 hours per week and currently has a total of 2,522 members. Among the services offered is one-on-one assistance as needed,” Gibson said.
Children’s activities are in full swing. These include “Lemonade at the Library,” where children make their own lemonade. There is a summer reading program each Friday in June featuring a “wildlife program”, “touch a truck” and “meet your librarian”. There is a youth volunteer program.
The library has made several improvements such as replacing old shelving. This created more room for additional books and activities. There is a new Integrated Library System and a laptop area. Funding for the library comes from several sources including the city, county and available grants.
Following Gibson’s report, Cox thanked Scott and White for their hard work and dedication in making the library successful. They received the applause of the aldermen and other guests present at the meeting.
