Middleton prepares to honor girls’ high school basketball team

At the monthly meeting of the Middleton City Board, Police Chief Lynn Webb reported all officers have been fitted for protective vests. He will present a vest policy at the April meeting.
In further police business, Mayor Jackie Cox reported he and Vice Mayor Jimmy Simpson, along with Webb, had completed an inventory of the department’s surplus and seized weapons. A motion was made and carried to declare all of the weapons owned by the city as surplus.
Webb also reported the roof of the Police station was in poor condition and was leaking. The board passed a motion to secure bids for repair or replacement of the roof. The bids will be reviewed at the April meeting.
Scoutmaster Durward Baxter attended the meeting, along with Scouts Landon Rainey and Jessie Knight. Attendance at the board meeting was part of the requirements for earning their Community Service merit badges.
At its February meeting, the board passed the first reading of an ordinance which would repeal three past ordinances for the sale, storage, and manufacture of beer within the city limits. The new ordinance will combine all previous ordinances into one. At the request of the board, City Attorney Tom Minor reviewed the proposed new ordinance. After discussion of his review, the board passed the second reading.
The city has completed plans to host a luncheon in honor of the Middleton High School Girls’ Basketball team in recognition of their winning the State Class A Championship.  It will be held April 9 at the community center.
