Grand Junction restructures Fire Department

Buddy Cantrell has been appointed Grand Junction’s Director of Fire Services. Tommy Breeden is now the city’s Fire Chief.
“This is a win-win situation for Grand Junction,” said Mayor Curtis Lane. “Cantrell is a strong administrator. Breeden is a strong trainer and highly experienced fire fighter.” The goal is to provide great fire protection while bringing the city’s ISO rating down. Lowering this rating will reduce residents’ home owner insurance premiums.
Working as a team, Cantrell will focus on completing and filing reports required by the state. He will also complete grant requests for purchase and upgrading equipment. Breeden will provide hands on training and recruit new volunteers for the department as well as direct fire calls.
Lane reported the completion of installation of the well pump which went out last month. Repairing or rebuilding was not possible. This required purchase of a new pump. Additional parts were replaced to accommodate the new pump. It is now online and fully operational.
