Grand Junction Gets Grant for New Library

Secretary of State Tre Hargett announced that the City of Grand Junction will receive $100,000 for the proposed project to rebuild the public library.  The grant money will be used to renovate the old Grand Junction High School Cafeteria Building, formerly Dunn Catalog facility (see photo right) and will become the Grand Junction Library.
“The Bobby Martindale Memorial/Grand Junction Library has outgrown the present facility. We offer HiSET (formerly GED) prep classes, computer skills classes, and many other adult training/enrichment opportunities. In addition, we offer many children’s activities, including Cloverbud 4-H Club for students kindergarten through third grade, summer reading programs, after school and Saturday programs. Our patrons often have to wait for a public computer to be available due to high usage. At the new facility, we will be able to offer more computers and more areas for people to use their personal computers,” said Wanza Taylor, Director of the Bobby Martindale Memorial Library.
“This is great news,” said Senator Dolores Gresham, who is Chairman of the Senate Education Committee.  “This library will be a great asset to our citizens, young and old alike.  It also helps in our workforce development efforts.  I am very pleased that these funds are available.”
According to Taylor, the new facility will double the amount of space the library has, with separate rooms for meetings and groups.
