Looking Back

The great and rich history of Hardeman County is tightly interwoven within the pages of the Bolivar Bulletin-Times. For the past four years I have been blessed to be a part of such a dedicated and fantastic newspaper team that is committed to bringing this community the award winning, top quality leading newspaper in the county. For the last four years we have done just that.
Contained within the hours and days I have been with the Bolivar Bulletin-Times, I have rejoiced with our basketball team as they brought home state titles, I have be honored to sit in the presence of the county’s highest decorated military veterans and tell their stories, watched as emergency responders worked diligently to help those in vehicle accidents and fire situations, stood in the rain with fans during football games, covered parades and share the successes of our students throughout the school system. Additionally, our team made history with bringing you the first ever debate consisting of governor and congressional candidates under one roof in one night for a professional debate.  We have helped change policies and laws as well as celebrated with church teens making a difference. I have also been blessed to help the City of Bolivar begin their annual Vietnam Veterans Day celebration to honor our heroes of the Vietnam War.
However, I have also cried with parents who have lost a child, prayed and feared for missing individuals, covered murders and deaths, as well as funerals of law enforcement and military heroes. Additionally, I have sat on the side of the road at Kilgore during coverage of explosions as well as exposed government problems from a city, county and state level.
Yet, somehow it has all worked together with your, the community’s, partnership in ensuring treasured stories and events of this county are never lost…for they are documented within the pages of your newspaper to secure these treasured stories for future generations.
As Holy Scripture says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). My season at the Bolivar Bulletin-Times has come to an end and I will forever be grateful to you, citizens of this great community, for allowing me into your homes, into your lives and to share your stories.  I have accepted a job with WMC-TV Action News 5 as a Digital Content Producer.
The legacy of the Bolivar Bulletin-Times runs deep through this county and it has been a privilege and honor to be a part of that legacy. As for me and my time with the Bulletin, it’s lights out.
