County commission passes curfew law

Minors within the county will now be subject to a curfew law after county commissioners passed the resolution during their May 19 meeting. The resolution places a curfew for minors regarding their presence on any public street, highway, park, vacant lot, establishment or other public place during the county.
“It extends from issues partly with minors conducting violence to property or violence to others,” Hardeman County Commissioner Jim Daniel told the commissioners.
The law will be enforced by the juvenile court officer and law enforcement officials.
The Resolution, following the establishment of a curfew put in place with T.C.A. 39-17-1702, places the following restrictions:
It is unlawful for any minor between seventeen (17) and eighteen (18) years of age to remain in or upon any public street, highway, park, vacant lot, establishment or other public place within the county during the following time frames: Monday through Thursday between the hours of eleven o’clock p.m. (11 p.m.) and six o’clock a.m. (6 a.m.) and Friday through Sunday between the hours of twelve o’clock (12 a.m.) to six o’clock a.m. (6 a.m.)
It is unlawful for any minor sixteen (16) years of age and under to remain in or upon any public street, highway, park, vacant lot, establishment or other public place within the county during the following time frames: Monday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and Friday through Sunday between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
