Middleton ladies clinch division title

The Middleton Lady Tigers Volleyball team clinched the District 15A regular season title with a 3-1 win over Trinity Christian Academy at home on Thursday, September 24.
“Our first goal this season was to finish first in our district, and the win over Trinity gave us that goal,” Middleton Head Coach Zeke Craft said.
Middleton lost the first game 14-25, but came back to win the next three games 25-18, 25-9, and 25-15. Top players for Middleton were Christian Woods with 15 kills, Kira Collier with 12 kills, Jazmine Cosby with 10 kills, Polly Dowty with four Kills, and Megan Leslie with 37 assists.
“The girls really stepped up and played a great game,” Craft said. “I am starting to get more consistent play from my girls and it is showing.”
The win gave Middleton a perfect 5-0 in the district for the season with just one game left, on the road at Scotts Hill on Monday, September 28.
The Lady Tigers played twice earlier in the week, defeating Fayette Academy 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19) on the road Monday, September 21, before blanking Madison 3-0 (25-6, 25-20, 25-6) at home on Tuesday, September 22.
Middleton also played in a tournament at Crockett County on Saturday, September 6, finishing third in a field of 12 teams. In pool play, the ladies were 2-0 defeating University School of Jackson 2-0 (25-21, 25-7), and Trenton Peabody 2-0. They went 2-3 in bracket play, defeating Halls 2-0 (25-22, 25-17) in the first round and Liberty 2-1 (25-16, 25-21 in the quarter finals before losing to Camden 0-2 (23-25, 15-25) in the semi finals.
As of Saturday, September 26, Middleton’s record is 20-6 (5-0 in District 15A). Middleton will host the District 15A tournament beginning on Thursday, October 1.
