The University of Memphis will soon offer classes in Bolivar at its campus at 208 Hope St.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10 a.m. May 3, 2012 at the campus located behind Bolivar Energy Authority on Tennessee Street. An open house is scheduled for 3:30-6 p.m. May 15.
Hardeman County Schools has been working with U of M officials for several months to bring college level classes to Hardeman County in an effort to make it easier for area citizens to take college courses in a convenient location.
Hardeman County Schools acquired the Hope Street building several years ago. It was formerly the Hardeman County Developmental Services Center. The City of Bolivar, Hardeman County Government and Hardeman County Schools have pooled their resources to renovate a portion of the building on its east side for The U of M, Bolivar campus.
“We are excited and pleased that The University of Memphis wants to put a campus in Bolivar,” Dr. Donald Hopper, director of Hardeman County Schools, said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our residents to be able to stay here to further their education.”
The public is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony. More information about the open house will be made available to the public at a later date.
